Germany

Germany have made two appearances at the Olympic Games this far, finishing ninth in Beijing in 2008 and fifth at London 2012. Before reunification, the former East Germany had finished 4th in Mexico City 1968 followed by the silver medal they won in Munich 1972. The former East Germany were crowned world champions in 1970 and clinched the FIVB World Cup title a year earlier.

Germany had one of their most successful periods in the last years, finishing fifth at the Olympic Games in London and winning two medals at the World Championship 2014 in Poland (bronze) as well as at the European Championship 2017 (silver). Germany claimed gold at the inaugural European Games held in Baku in 2015 as well.
