Bratislava

City Information

Bratislava is the only capital in the world located on the border of three sovereign states – Slovakia, Austria and Hungary. Besides its strategic location on the River Danube, the city takes pride in its rich history. It was first settled by the Celts, followed by the Romans and then the Slavs.

The town’s cozy, yet compact, historical centre offers a unique atmosphere with a plentitude of stylish cafes, restaurants and architecture associated with the famous coronation past makes visiting Bratislava a true experience. The proximity of nature, vineyards, the Danube and rich cultural life are among the reasons why Bratislava is unique.

"I am really looking forward to having EuroVolley in my birthtown! I hope the atmosphere will be great; the stadium is really huge, but I am sure many fans will come to support us. I have goose bumps before every match with the national team, but this time it will be special. I believe EuroVolley will attract fans from all corners of the country and that they will enjoy an amazing show!"

Venue

The games will take place at the Ice Arena of Ondrej Nepela, the oldest ice arena in Slovakia. This was the main venue for the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in May. The usual capacity for the ice hockey games is more than 10,000 spectators.

Slovak men's volleyball national team played a friendly match here against Poland in October 2015 prior to the EuroVolley 2015 with more than 6400 spectators in the stands.

There are many cultural events in the arena throughout the year such as concerts, ice shows and many others.

"It is truly a unique opportunity for our fans to see the best teams from Europe here in Bratislava! I am sure fans will experience a great atmosphere, with the best players from all over the Europe in a fierce fight for every point. It will be special to all of us; only one player from our team has already participated in the European Championships before, so, it will be the highlight of our careers in the national team and even more so because of the fact we will play at home."
