Eighth Finals in Poland confirmed

News

Article Thu, Sep 9 2021

With the matches in Pool A and Pool C - hosted in Poland and Finland respectively - being completed, so the match schedule for the Eighth Finals to be held in Gdansk in Northern Poland could be announced.  Two enthralling matches will take place this coming Saturday at the Ergo Arena GDANSK / SOPOT and if the atmosphere this past week in Krakow is anything to go by then all who watch remotely or from the stands are in for a right show.  Followed by two more on the Sunday, on the same day as matches restart in Czechia.

First to take to the court in Gdansk is Russia vs Ukraine as the recent Olympic Silver medalists take on their neighbours at 17.30 CEST, followed by a battle between the two pool hosts from the previous phase as the reigning double World Champions take on Finland.

Then on Sunday, the group toppers from Pool C face Portugal - with the Dutch side driven on as always by the competitions top scorer so far Nimir Abdel-Aziz (who already has over 20 points more than the rest of the field).  Then in the 20:30 slot the European Champions from 2019 face Turkey in what will also be a tightly contested battle for that coveted quarter-final place.

"We are very happy, because it's the first time when Portugal progresses to the next round. We showed that we can play under pressure so I'm really proud of my team."
