Istanbul, Turkey, January 8, 2021. Team Turkey is working hard at the iconic Burhan Felek Vestel Volleyball Hall in Istanbul to prepare in the best possible way for the CEV EuroVolley 2021 Men qualifier that they will be contesting next week in Skopje. Turkey will be playing there two matches with hosts North Macedonia and another two with Bosnia and Herzegovina after Denmark withdrew from the competition back in December due to concerns around the further evolution of the coronavirus pandemic.

The head coach of Team Turkey Nedim Özbey has been working in Istanbul with a group of 18 players and this past weekend he had to make a change to the initial extended roster following an injury sustained by outside hitter Yasin Aydin of Galatasaray HDI Sigorta.

While some of the players have been working on the court, others have spent time recovering in the gym following their latest matches in the Turkish national league.

“Of course, it will be a tough tournament, with not so much time to prepare with the other members of the team since we have all come straight from our respective clubs. However, despite this, we have high goals for this EuroVolley qualifier. We will play against good teams like North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. I think that if we perform well as a team, we have a very good chance at qualifying for this year’s EuroVolley.”

Adis Lagumdzija, born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is currently spending his first season abroad playing for Vero Volley MONZA in the elite Italian national league.

The eventual winners of Pool C will secure their participation in the event that Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and Finland will be co-hosting in the late summer of 2021. Last time out, Turkey reached the 8th Finals at EuroVolley, where they lost in three sets to Italy to finish the competition in 12th place.
