CEV EuroVolley 2023 | Men
Time for the #EuroVolleyM show in Tel Aviv to start!
Co-hosts Israel take on Greece in the opening match of Pool D, aiming at creating a real Volleyball party for the fans of the sport that will attend the game at the Shlomo Group Arena.
At 20:00 local time (check your time here), the players of head coach Itamar Stein will enter the court with one goal only - the victory. However, on the other side of the net, they will have to face another inspired squad-Greece, who dream big, remembering the team’s last big success on the European Volleyball stage (a bronze medal from EuroVolley back in 1987).
It is a big day for the Israeli Volleyball community, since the Men’s team make their fourth appearance at the European Championship after a 52-year-long pause. They last took part in the tournament back in 1971 (and before that in 1967 and 1951), and for sure, would like to get back in the spotlight of European Volleyball on a positive note.
Back in 1971, Israel won three of their eight matches, and finished on 12th place (from 22 teams), but inspired, the local Volleyball stars will try to show their best in 2023, in the company of none other than the reigning Olympic champs of France, Golden EuroLeague winners Türkiye, Portugal, Romania.
Greece, on the other hand, have more recent participations at Europe’s top competition. Back in 2019, they claimed a win over Pool D opponent Romania, which is their most recent success at EuroVolley.
