Overview
Rotterdam swings into action with the Czech Republic taking on Ukraine in what is an important match for both sides. If they have aspirations of finishing in the top four and progressing to the Eighth Finals then a win and three points is a must. Playing each other in the European Golden League earlier this summer produced a five set thriller which went to Czech side, then a 3-0 win for Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia.

Surprising EC opening in Rotterdam with a 3-1 win of Ukraine over Czech Republic
Ukraine honored its nick name of “dangerous underdog” in pool D at the opening match in Rotterdam, quickly taking a 2-0 lead in sets. The Czech Republic fought back into the game, winning in the third set but that proved not to be enough. After over two hours of play, Ukrainian Dmytro Vlietskyi closed the match over the Czech with a deep ace. Ukraine won 25-22 and thus the first EC points in Rotterdam go to Ukraine.
The leading scorer of the match for Ukraine was the 21-year-old Dmytro Viietskyi, who hit 20/32 and added 2 aces and a block. A break-out performance for the youngster. Jan Hadrava and Donovan Dzavoronok led the way for the Czech Republic, with 16 and 15 points respectively.
