Although Slovakia suffered their first defeat in the qualifiers, they had already secured top position in the pool and had qualified for EuroVolley 2021, allowing coach Marke Kardos to field several of his serves for the game.

The win allowed Romania a brief glimmer of hope of finishing in second place, but for that to happen Switzerland would have had to lose to winless Albania in the last match of the tournament, later in the day.

As it was, Robert Aciobanitei served five aces and gathered a total of 18 points for the match high, while also contributing very positively in reception. Filip Gavenda was Slovakia's best scorer, just one point shy of Aciobanitei, on 17.

Marek Kardos, Slovakia head coach: "We changed completely our basic six and tried to find out how the other guys can play, because we will play like this in the Golden League. It was not bad for two and a half sets then the lack of experience started to show and we made too many unforced errors, especially in reception. We are very glad we won five games in a row. The task has been fulfilled, the mission is complete and now it is time for the European Championship where we have a change of generation and try to get the for the young guys playing."

Danut Pascu, Romania head coach: "The tournament ended with a beautiful victory for the young generation, but unfortunately we did not achieve our goal. It seems that we were not determined enough, we made mistakes in the important moments. We did not manage to make that victory with Switzerland, because in the event of a won match we were in the cards to qualify. As you can see, we have a beautiful young generation, a generation of very talented players who in two or three years can be the nucleus of a competitive Romanian National Team."
