Germany have made two appearances at the Olympic Games this far, finishing ninth in Beijing in 2008 and fifth at London 2012. Before reunification, the former East Germany had finished 4th in Mexico City 1968 followed by the silver medal they won in Munich 1972. The former East Germany were crowned world champions in 1970 and clinched the FIVB World Cup title a year earlier.
“We are the current vice-European champions, so the expectations are high. We will go to EuroVolley with a lot of confidence, but also with humility. Of course, we will play in a very tough group, but the European Championship is the most important tournament in 2019. Our sense of anticipation is enormous.”
