The nickname of the Turkish men’s national team is ‘Filenin Efeleri’, aka Braves of Nets. Currently ranked no. 15 in Europe, Turkey competed at the 1963, 1967 and 1971 European Championships before a break of 36 years until they celebrated their next appearance in 2007.
Turkey’s best result in the continental showpiece event is the 11th place they achieved in the 1963, 2011 and 2017 editions. Turkey just claimed their first major international title by sweeping aside Belarus 3-0 in the gold medal match of the CEV Volleyball European Golden League 2019.
