Since reunification, the German women’s team have qualified for the Olympic Games three times. A sixth place finish at the Sydney 2000 Games remains the team’s best performance. Germany’s best finish in the FIVB Volleyball World Championship as a united country came in 1994, where they finished in fifth place. They were 11th last time around, in 2018.
“European women’s Volleyball has developed strongly in the last few years. I think that every pool is very balanced. We will compete against Russia, without a doubt one of the strongest teams in the world but I think that we can win against every other team in our pool. It is our goal to finish the preliminary round as good as possible to get a great starting position for the knock-out stage.”
