Match Report

Bulgaria clinch their first win over Greece

Article

In this EuroVolley 2019 opening match, Bulgaria virtually took the lead of Pool A after their win against Greece in a pleasant battle. Despite Andreopoulos’ players’ good defence, the athleticism of the Bulgarian squad eventually prevailed.

Silvano Prandi’s men earned a well-deserved first victory, displaying application and focus, before their matchup with Romania tomorrow. Sokolov proved once again a great asset to this well-organised selection. Greece, on the other hand, missed an opportunity to convert their good phases into set wins. They will face favourite Italy tomorrow at 8:45pm.

"The only important thing is to win. The result is good, better than expected. Now we think for the next match and I am pleased that no body was injured and that the team played well. But tomorrow is another day."

Silvano Prandi
Bulgaria's head coach

"We go inside the court with good vision, trying to get something from the game. Some small details gave the first set to Bulgaria so I think we have to push in three sets and not just in one. We have to be tough on ourselves to prepare for the matches we have to win later on."

Georgios Petreas
Greek Captain
