Overview

Since the breakup of the former Czechoslovakia, fourth is the best finish achieved by a Czech side to date, doing it in both 1999 and 2001, and they will hope this experience counts against the EuroVolley rookies in their final pool match. The Czech Republic can secure a spot in the round of 16 by winning at least 2 sets in this match. Montenegro has the opportunity to move onto Belgium in their first EuroVolley appearance if they win 3-0 or 3-1.

Pool D Scenarios:

- Poland have already secured top spot, whilst Ukraine will take second away from the Netherlands with a win over the Polish side.

- The Czech Republic secure qualification by finishing 4th if they win at least two sets against Montenegro. While a 3-0 or 3-1 win for Montenegro will mean they take the final 1/8 Final spot.

Match Report

Montenegro win 3-2, but the Czech Republic book their ticket to the eight finals in Antwerp

Article 19 September 2019

The game started with great joy for the team and fans from  Montenegro after winning the opening set: 23-25. Still, the Czech Republic crushes Montenegrian hope at the beginning of the second set. Jan Hadrava, who has ended two matches in this pool with an ace, served an 8-1 run to open the set. No recovery after that: 25-14 for the Czechs. Montenegro resurrects in the first half of the third act (6-11, 8-13, 13-16, 18-20, 21-22-, 22-25)) and leads again: 2-1. The 4th set was decisive: The winner of the fourth set is the team that qualifies for the eight finals. After a back-and-forth set, the Czech Republic win 25-21 and are assured to advance. Still, Montenegro still showed fight and gets the consolation prize with the match win; last set 13-15.

Montenegro ends with 2 wins in the inaugural appearance at EuroVolley. Jan Hadrava scores 39 points for the Czech Republic. Milos Culafic had 22 for Montenegro
