Match Report

Belarus get the job done vs Norway

Article

On the last day of play in the first #EuroVolleyM Qualifier in Pool G, Belarus didn't let any surprises, and confirmed that they are one of the favourites in this group, for grabbing the ticket to the Finals of Europe's elite competition. The players coached by Viktar Beksha needed only 76 minutes to seize a straight-sets victory over Norway, and thus recording a second victory in the Pool after having outclassed at 3-0 Hungary on Saturday. The only opponent that Belarus couldn't outperform was the team of Portugal, whom they've lost to at 2-3. The second tournament that will be decisive for the final standings in the group, will start on May 14 with Portugal hosting it. On this day, the Belarus players will have to enter the battle against the host team.

  • On Sunday, Belarus started better in the match vs Norway, taking a lead after storming out on attack (eight winning spikes up until the middle of the set). Norway's Petter Alstad ØSTVIK reacted with some good performance scoring points, and Norway started breathing down their opponents' necks. However, Belarus found a way to emerge victorious and to open in their favour.
  • Maksim Bahatka helped a lot to Belarus in the beginning of the second set. He and his teammates amazed with outstanding performance on the serving line (six aces) and also on the block (four kill blocks).
  • Norway had a wake-up call in the third set but it was too late for the Nordic players to turn things around. Even scoring two aces and keeping up with Belarus' level on the spiking, the players of Tore Aleksandersen weren't able to take the set.
  • Uladzislau DAVYSKIBA and Uladzislau BABKEVICH contributed the most for their team's victory with 13 and 12 points, respectively. For Norway, ØSTVIK recorded 10.
