Italy
Team Italy performed very well in this year’s FIVB Volleyball Nations League as they reached the Final Six after playing a series of very good matches in the group stage. After the Olympic qualifying event in Catania, Team Italy will focus solely on the continental showpiece event. The silver medal winners from last year’s World Championship, Italy will try to repeat the same performance also at European level, where they boast two titles (2007, 2009) under the guidance of former head coach Massimo Barbolini, as well two silver and two bronze medals.
Cristina Chirichella“It will be very intense weeks, since in the space of a few days we will play for the qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the European Championship. For this reason we will have to be very careful not to relax and not to give in especially from a mental point of view, because these events are equally important and the period will be long, so the head must lead and the body follows.”
Team Captain
Davide Mazzanti“The European Championship is always a very important event, for the prestige of the competition, since it features the best teams from our continent. Now we focus on the Olympic qualifying tournament in Catania, but we will have to be good at keeping our concentration high even after that, when EuroVolley becomes the primary goal.”
