Daniele Lavia's career began in the 2014-15 season in Corigliano Volley, in Serie A2, a club with which he also remained the following season, playing in Serie B1 following the club's renunciation of participating in the cadet championship. In the 2016-17 season, he moved to Materdomini di Castellana Grotte, in Serie A2, where he remains for two years.

For the 2018-19 championship, he moved to Porto Robur Costa of Ravenna in the Superlega: he remained linked to the Romagna team for two years, moving to Modena in the 2020-21 season, while in the following one, Lavia was with Trentino, still in the Superlega, with which he won the Italian Super Cup 2021.

From 2016 to 2018, he was called up to the Italian Under-20 national team; in 2016, he was in the Under-23 national team, while in 2017, the young Italian player was part of the Under-19 national team, with which he won the silver medal at the European championship in the same year and the Golden one at the European Youth Olympic Festival. In 2019 he was called up to the Under-21 national team, winning the silver medal at the world championship, where he was awarded the best spiker.

In 2019 he obtained his first call-ups to the senior national team, with which, in 2021, he won the gold medal at the European championship. A year later, he won gold again at the World Championship.
