Scandinavium
Since its inauguration in 1971, Scandinavium has been a central stage for international sport, music, and culture in Gothenburg. During its first decade, the arena hosted over a thousand events – from concerts with Johnny Cash, ABBA, and The Rolling Stones to World Championships in fencing, wrestling, and figure skating. That same decade saw the birth of the Gothenburg Horse Show, which soon became one of the world’s premier equestrian events.
On the ice, Frölunda HC has made history with multiple championships, and Sweden’s Davis Cup victory remains one of the arena’s defining moments. Scandinavium has also hosted World Championships in ice hockey, handball, and short-course swimming, and Whitney Houston set a crowd record that still stands.
Beyond sports, the arena has welcomed legendary performers including Prince, Beyoncé, Elton John, and Black Sabbath. With fifty years of passion behind it, Scandinavium now looks ahead as the world’s best volleyball players gather in Gothenburg in 2026.
