CEV EuroVolley 2021 | Men
The first quarter-final at the ERGO ARENA Gdańsk was held between the defending Champions – the team of Serbia – and the Netherlands. Both teams needed five sets in their eighth finals matches in order to reach to this stage. The Dutch finally defeated Portugal, while Serbia won against Turkey in what was possibly the match of the tournament so far.
Serbian outside hitter Uros Kovacevic scored 15 points on 63% attacking.
Nikola Jovović"I think concentration was the key. We started this game with a good attitude and with a good mindset, because during the last game against Turkey we had some brainstorms during the match and today we just tried to stay focused from the first to last ball. We promised ourselves in the locker room that this would not be our last game at this tournament. It was a good day for us and I really like the way we played and how we stopped Nimir who is a great player."
The second and the last quarter-final match at ERGO ARENA in Gdańsk was a tough battle between the reigning World Champions and co-hosts, team Poland, and the Olympic Games’ Silver Medalists, Russia. For the latter, it was the 100th match they had played in tournament’s history, where up to this point they had achieved an impressive 77 victories. In the history of battles against Poland, Russia had won 19 out of the 23 matches at EuroVolley.
Wilfredo Leon & Bartosz Kurek both scored 14 points each in the win.
Wilfredo Leon"If we play next games like this one we will win this EuroVolley. We played great and I'm very happy about our performance. I know very well these players, because I played with them in Russia. It was a hard game, we played strong and pushed them until the end and now we are waiting for next opponent."
