Emotional Eight-Finals' night in Firenze and Brussels, with The Netherlands, Türkiye, Poland and Bulgaria who clinched the Quarter-Finals at EuroVolley 2023
Four exciting Eight-Finals games in EuroVolley 2023 took place tonight in Firenze (ITA) and Brussels (BEL).
After yesterday’s wins of Italy and France over Spain and Romania, on tonight at Palazzo Wanny in Firenze the games were The Netherlands versus Switzerland, and Bulgaria versus Slovakia, while at Paleis 12 in Brussels the games were Türkiye-Belgium and Poland-Germany.
Once again a great volleyball showdown in EuroVolley 2023 with a couple of big battles and some undisputed wins.
It was a tough and difficoult 3-1 win for powerhouse Türkiye over home team Belgium, with Kris Vansnick’s team who fought hard in fourth set, losing 30-32 but battling until the end. Once again a great performance by Turkish-Cuban opposite Melissa Vargas, who scored 27 points, good game together with outside spiker Ebrar Kerakurt, with 20 points. For Belgium the best scorer was opposite Pauline Martin with 18 points.
In the second game at Paleis 12 in Brussels, Poland surprised 3-0 Germany with an outstanding performance by opposite Magdalena Stysiak, 22 points for her. For Germany the best scorer was Lena Stigrot with 11 points. It was a great game for Stefano Lavarini’s team over Vital Heynen’s team. Poland will face powerhouse Türkiye in Quarter-Finals.
In Firenze it was an easy win for The Netherlands over Switzerland, an impressive 3-0 for the Oranjes, who clinched the Quarter-Final’s spot with an outstanding performance of outside spiker Nika Daalderop, who put on the ground 17 points. 10 points for Switzerland's Maja Storck, in the end it was a good tournament for Lauren Bertolacci’s team, who reached Eight-Finals for the first time in history.
Later at Palazzo Wanny it was an heartbeat game between Bulgaria and Slovakia, with Michal Masek’s team who easily won first two sets but suffered an amazing comeback from Bulgaria, who won third and fourth sets forcing the game to tie break.
Lorenzo Micelli’s team took an early 5-0 lead in tie break, keeping the lead until the end winning the game 15-9, clinching the Quarter-Final’s spot with a formidable performance for Radostina Marinova, who scored 21 points. Best scorer for Slovakia was Karin Sunderlikova with 17 points.
Tomorrow will take place last two Eight-Finals between Serbia and Sweden and Czechia and Ukraine.
