An early challenge for Pool B's first place at Arena di Monza, with defending champs Italy facing undefeated Bulgaria in a very interesting game, looking out for an already decisive win
The two teams atop Pool B’s standings will face each other on tonight at Arena di Monza, home team Italy versus Bulgaria, in the top match of the Pool until this moment.
Defending champs Italy are coming from two convincing wins in the Pool, versus Romania in the opening game at amazing Arena di Verona, and yesterday versus Switzerland, two 3-0 wins for Davide Mazzanti’s team, who’s looking for the third win in these three games of the tournament.
Italy's MVP of first game versus Romania was Alice Degradi, who had an huge impact on the game coming from the bench, while versus Switzerland the best scorer for the Azzurre was opposite Ekaterina Antropova with 16 points, with middle blocker Marina Lubian who scored 12 points with an amazing 89% in attack.
Davide Mazzanti kept superstar Paola Egonu on the bench in the first game versus Romania, giving her some more space versus Switzerland, with Italian superstar who finished her game with 5 points, so let’s see if Italian head coach will use Egonu at 100% in the game versus Bulgaria.
The Azzurre are still the favourite team of this game, but will challenge a tough opponent as Bulgaria, a team who’s doing an outstanding job until now in the Pool.
Still undefeated after two games, Lorenzo Micelli’s team (an italian coach who will have some extra motivation to push Bulgaria at its best versus his country’s team) beated Croatia in first game, and Bosnia & Herzegovina in the second game of Pool B, both the wins with the result of 3-1, showing some good plays on court and a strong winning mentality.
Will be a very interesting game, already decisive for the hunt for the first place in the pool.
The other game of the day will be Romania-Switzerland and will take place at 18, a game between two teams who will need to take home a victory to stay on track for an Eight-Final spot. Romania is one win and one loss in the standings, while Switzerland is still winless, another emotional challenge in Pool B.
