CEV EuroVolley 2023 | Women
The best eight teams in women’s European volleyball have now claimed their seats in the quarterfinals round of the CEV EuroVolley 2023, with Serbia and Czechia being the last two to have done so, following today’s matches in Brussels.
Serbia has been ruthless in the competition so far and Captain Maja Ognjenovic and her team had nothing else in mind except taking care of business today. Spearheading the efforts of the Serbians was, yet again superstar Tijana Boskovic who would end up having another 20+ points performance en route to holding Sweden to a 15.3 pts/set average, outstanding.
There was not much Sweden’s own superstar, Isabelle Haak could do to stop her team from falling out of the competition. Only 11 points on the night for her, however being eliminated by the reigning world champions will not tarnish a solid EuroVolley participation for Haak and Team Sweden.
Later on the day, Czechia and Ukraine provided one of the most balanced and entertaining matches that Belgian fans have seen all tournament. After Czechia confidently cruised to a 2-0 lead, with nothing to lose, Ukraine started pushing their way back in contention, pushing the match into the tie-break, the first on Belgian soil in the competition up to this point.
After resting the starting lineup for most of set 4, Czechia once again looked like the same team that had won the first two sets of the match and push confidently towards the win and a spot in the quarterfinals.
