Match Report

Second success in a row for Slovakia

Article 24 August 2019

Slovakia has reached second straight sets victory in Bratislava and made another small step to advance to the next round of EuroVolley for the first time ever. Once again, more than four thousand spectators helped the home team and Slovakia played another solid match against fighting opponent.
First two sets saw Slovaks able to pull ahead for a few points to reach the end of the set without fear. Switzerland look much determined not to make life easy for co-hosts especially in the third set. It was drama almost until the finish, but Slovakia did not let go the chance and, with this second success, is, at least until tomorrow, leader of Group D.

Day 2 Recap

Play

Marco Fenoglio, Slovakia coach: “Great. We had two victories. For us is also important that Germany beat Spain today. But we played strong. I am really satisfied. We are closed to the second round.”

“The third set was tough. We knew we were close, but sometimes in moments like this, your concentration goes down. But we managed it.”

Karin Palgutova
Slovakia Player

Thays Deprati, Switzerland player: “Slovakia played very well, for sure better than us. We gave everything, but we lost again. What was the biggest difference? Slovakia played really good in defence, really good controlled our attackers.”

“We thought we would have a chance to win today. We prepared the match in a good way, but on the other hand we knew that from ten games Slovakia beat us nine times. It was a good performance of Slovakia. But we did our best and we came back in the last set. So I have to be satisfied of how we fought today."

Switzerland Coach
