In the second match of the day in Pool D, Latvia will try to challenge the leaders of the pool, team France. The Olympic champions have demonstrated their class in the pool stage, having so far lost just a single set against Germany and are definitely looking forward to another clean victory today. After a good start, Latvia have endured quite a few setbacks and have now minimized their chances of proceeding ahead to the next stage of the tournament.

However, with the pressure off, the team managed to put up a solid performance and steal a set against another pool favourite Germany, and is definitely hoping to have some surprises up their sleeve against France today as well.

Match Report

France celebrate, Latvia need to wait for Slovakia final result

Article 8 September 2021

Latvia could not find a way to surprise the leaders of the pool D - team France - and recorded a clear defeat in straight sets. Still, Latvia’s sole 3-1 win against Estonia in the tournament opener might be just enough to take them to the next round. France are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the group and will end the pool stage tomorrow against the hosts of the tournament Estonia.

The Olympic champions demonstrated their class with an outstanding 86% efficiency on attack and took a comfortable 25-18 win of the first set.

In the second set, Latvia struggled on both reception (25%) and attack (28%) while good-spirited France continued with confidence and emerged victorious at 25-14.

Despite some substitute players entering the court, France continued rock-solid in the third set. Set and match got a slightly unusual ending with setter Benjamin Toniutti’s spike 25-17.
