Slovenia

The Slovenian men’s Volleyball team played their first official match on April 24, 1992 and in 2001, the Slovenians made their first EuroVolley appearance and claimed a respectable twelfth place. Since 2007, Slovenia have participated at all European Championships, but the historic result came in 2015 in Bulgaria and Italy, where the team coached by Andrea Giani won the first medal – a silver – for the country at any major international competition.

One of the greatest achievements of Slovenian team sport was followed by wins in the FIVB World League Groups 3 and 2. In 2018, Slovenia achieved another milestone by participating at their first ever FIVB World Championship, where they finished 12th.

“The European Championship will be a peak of this generation of players and Slovenian Volleyball as a whole. We have never hosted such an important Volleyball competition in Slovenia before. When I look back to my beginnings in the national team so many years ago, I can see how many important steps forward we have made until today, and the EuroVolley in front of our fans and supporters will in some way be a reward for our hard work during all these years.”

Captain of Slovenia

“Positive feelings are present from the beginning. We are working well and I believe the players will give their best to be able to enjoy this great opportunity to play the European Championship in our hall, in front of our supporters and our nation. I think this is an occasion when one does not have to think, just enjoy and experience it.”
