EuroVolley Ambassador

Simone Giannelli

Italy

Profile

Simone Giannelli began playing Volleyball in his hometown, Bolzano, in the Südtirol youth academy: in 2010, he joined Trentino, a club where the Italian player continued to play at the youth level until 2014 and with which he took his first steps as a professional, joining the first team, engaged in Serie A1, already during the 2012-13 season, in which it won the Italian Championship.

He was then promoted to the first team starting from the 2014-15 championship, in which he won the Italian Championship and was awarded MVP. In the remaining seven years with the Trentino side, he won a Club World Championship and a CEV Cup.

In the 2021-22 season, Giannelli was transferred by Sir Safety PERUGIA, still in the SuperLega, with which he won the 2021-22 Italian Cup, the Italian Super Cup and the 2022 Club World Championship, where he was named MVP and best setter of the competition.
He was part of the Under-19 and Under-20 national youth teams, participating respectively in the continental competitions of 2013 and 2014.

In 2015 he received his first call-ups to the senior National Team, with which he won the silver medal at the World Cup and the bronze medal at the European championship in the same year, while a year later, he obtained the silver medal at the XXXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, followed by another silver at the 2017 Grand Champions Cup.

A year later, Giannelli won a gold medal at the world championship, repeating the recognition as the best player and being awarded as the best setter. In 2021 he won the gold medal at the European championship, where he was awarded MVP.

"I am very honoured to be an ambassador of my country! Playing in Italy is the best!"
