EuroVolley Ambassador

Kertu Laak

Estonia

Profile

Kertu Laak grew up in a small town called Kohila and started playing Volleyball there when she was 8.

Soon enough, she got invited to youth national teams, at first playing as a setter. She was even chosen as the Best Setter of the Baltic Championships and asked as a second setter to the senior national team at 15. Later on, she continued her career as an opposite, and after graduating from Audentes Sports School in 2017, she started her professional career in Finland.

During that time, she made history with the national team and qualified for EuroVolley 2019 - the first Estonian women's major ball sports team to ever go to a big final tournament ! After two seasons in LP Viesti Salo that culminated with a Finnish Championship title, she moved on to one of the top leagues in the world - Italian A1 side Chieri. She got a taste of the high levels of Volleyball and, after two seasons, continued her career in the top German club Schwerin. T

Things got tough, however, and she decided to take some time off Volleyball at the halfway point of the season, move back to Estonia and work on the other side of the microphone for a change - as a volleyball journalist.

Half a season of "normal life" and playing for an Estonian club Viljandi Metall was a good break from pro sports that gave her the strength and passion for returning for the national team summer, after which she got back into the athlete's life by joining the French league in the jersey of RC Cannes for the 2022/23 season.

"I am super honoured to be a EuroVolley Ambassador for 2023! The fact that I am one of the few people who have the opportunity to be the voice of the EuroVolley tournament is so exciting. I know that Estonia will be a great host to this big event, and I can't wait to show all of it to people around Europe!"
