Overview
Italy's journey to the 1/8 Finals was not as smooth as they would have hoped, dropping sets to Greece, Romania and Bulgaria, before losing in four sets to France. However, with four wins under their belt, the Italians ended up comfortably second in Pool A in the end. Turkey had a shot of finishing second going into the final match, but after a defeat to Finland eventually finished 3rd. The winner of the match will advance to the Quarter-Finals where they will face the team coming from EF1 - France or Finland.
Adis LAGUMDZIJA"Every game is a different game. We need to keep our spirits high. We had an ok group stage but now this is the 1/8 Finals and we will do our best. We know Italy is one of the best teams in the world but we will give our best and and have to see."
Opposite - Turkey
Simone ANZANI"We are confident, but every team is very very good - especially through opposite. We have to concentrate hard in order to win. The team is good, we had a little problem yesterday but now we are ok and we are ready for this battle."

Head-to-Head
· Italy have won all their previous four European Championship matches against Turkey.
· These nations will meet for the second edition of the European Championship in a row. In 2017, Italy beat Turkey in straight sets in the play-off round to reach the quarter-finals. Luca Vettori (14) scored most points for Italy. Metin Toy (12) was Turkey's top scorer.
· Italy last dropped a set against Turkey in the European Championship in 1967, when they claimed a 3-1 win in the group phase (15-9, 9-15, 15-10, 15-10).
Italy
· Italy are hoping to claim their seventh European title and their first since 2005. Only Russia (14, including as Soviet Union) have won more European titles.
· Italy won their opening four group stage matches in this year’s European Championship, before losing 3-1 against co-hosts France in their final fixture on 18 September.
· Italy can now suffer back-to-back European Championship defeats for the first time since 2009, when they started the second group stage with consecutive defeats against Russia and Netherlands.
· Ivan Zaytsev has scored 99 points in this year's European Championship, at least 23 more than any of his teammates. His tally of 99 points was the highest in the group stage of all players in Pool A.
· Zaytsev was Italy's top scorer in four of their five group stage matches. The only exception was the 3-1 win over Greece, when Osmany Juantorena Portuondo scored a team-high 21 points.
· Matteo Piano scored 16 points from blocks in this year's group stage, more than any other player.

Italy ponderously got past Turkey
Matteo Piano"I’m really happy that we won this game. Now, it’s France. It’s amazing to think that some of us play in the same clubs and that we’ll be playing against one another for such a great event."
Italy's middle blocker
Arslan Eksi"We were a little stressed to play against Italy. It was close in the first set, but unfortunately we were a bit tired, coming after five matches in Slovenia. But we need no excuses, Italy played better, we made too many mistakes."
Turkey's setter
Simone Giannelli"I'm happy that we won 3-0 because despite the virus we played well. Now we have to play against France, which is one of the best teams in the world, so it will be very difficult playing here. It will be a great match."
Italy's setter
Adis Lagumdzija"We did not finish the way we wanted, we aimed to end up in the last eight teams, but that's the way it is. Italy is a very good team. We gave some resistance but it wasn't enough for us to win the match."
