In the battle of the two teams that lost their opening matches, Slovenia dominated and won 3:0 on Saturday. The match started very carefully and both the teams were quite nervous. Later it was the players of Slovenia who created two-point lead (7:5) and then their lead began to grow. The opposite Tonček Stern and the outside spiker Tine Urnaut were the main players of the Slovenian team in the opening set. After a successful attack by Stern the score was 17:13, and by the end of the set the lead had grown to eight points.

The silver team from the last European Championship was not only better in attack, but also in blocking and defense, meaning the Montenegrins could not find a way to score. On the contrary, the Slovenians played carefully and with a good performance they pleased many of their fans in the Ostravar Arena. In the second set they allowed Montenegro to score only seventeen points. The setter Dejan Vinčič showed a much more varied game than the setter of Montenegro, Rajko Strugar. He offered the balls not only to Urnaut, Stern and outside hitter Cebulj, but he also surprised his opponent several times by attacking in the middle over both the blockers.

There was no change during the third set and Slovenia finally won 3:0 and scored three important points.

Tonček Stern, the opposite of Slovenia: „We played much better than against the Czech Republic and we had no fans against us. We produced less mistakes on serve and we have to keep that in future matches. We analyzed our mistakes of the the first match in the video and changed the game accordingly. And everything worked now.“

Veljko Basic, head coach of Montenegro: „There is a big difference between the individual quality of the players, Slovenia served and blocked better. We knew this match will be difficult because we will play against the silver medal team from the last EuroVolley. Now we must prepare for the next match with Italy.“
