Match Report

Portugal with another victory at the Qualifier

Article

The team of Portugal recorded another victory at the #EuroVolleyM Qualifier taking place in Budapest. After a 3-2 win on Friday vs Belarus, on Saturday the players around head coach Hugo Silva claimed a straight-sets victory outclassing the team of Norway. The Portuguese team controlled the game during the whole match, and never let their opponents to bring any surprises into the match. With 48 winning spikes, and 51% efficiency in this component, Portugal are topping the charts after two days of play in Pool G.

  • It was a close call in the beginning of the set, but as the set unfold, Portugal, led by Lourenco Martins, pushed hard on the attack and took control of the action on the court. 17 winning spikes for Portugal in this part allowed them to open in their favour.
  • One ace and one block helped Portugal to build a small point difference in the beginning. Norway, however, weren't ready to give in and put up some real fight, showing skills on the block and on the serving line. Nevertheless, the Portuguese players showed better determination and enjoying some sharp spikes, emerged victorious also from this set.
  • Portugal seemed to have it easy on the court in the third set, but it was in these moments when the players coached by Tore Aleksandersen pushed their limits and got closer to the score. However, it turned out that this wasn't enough, as the mentally strong Portugal players showed up again and claimed the victory.
