Italy entered this match very motivated after the maximum performance in the group stage. Belgium was weakened from the start by not playing one of the best players Brit Herbots. After an introductory showdown, Italy took the initiative and took the lead with 8: 4. Gert van de Broek's team tried to return to the game on several occasions, but the Italians always had the answer, they maintained the acquired advantage and convincingly won this set - 25:14. Chirichela Cristia and Paola Egonu were very happy with 5 and 7 points, respectively.
The Belgians didn’t want to give up, although they convincingly lost the first set. In the second half of the second period, they had the initiative and it seemed a huge 17:13. However, the current vice-champions of the world managed to cancel the gap, primarily through the inspired Egonu - 23:23. In the meantime, drama followed, and Van de Vyver Ilka and her teammates had stronger nerves - 25:23.
The third set was almost the same as the first. Although Italy finished this set with seven service errors, that didn’t affect the result much. She took the lead with 6: 2 and 14: 7, then with 19:13, to solve the set in their favor with 25:17.
The fourth set was a confirmation of Italy's excellent game in the course of the tournament so far. They took control from the first point, made a result difference and very convincingly brought the match to an end. The set ended with 25:12 for Italy, which will play in the quarterfinals against the better team from the duel between Russia and Belarus.
