Match Report
Germany secure their Round of 16 spot
Article
24 August 2021
Germany beat Greece 3-0 to join Poland, Bulgaria, and Czech Republic as the Pool B eight finalists. The team coached by Felix Koslowski is currently the second-ranked team in the group behind Poland. On the other side, Greece finished the tournament with 5 losses out of 5 matches.
● Needing one set only to qualify for the elimination round, Germany got in the match extremely motivated and didn't lose the lead at any moment in the opener. Although Greece were slightly dominating on block and reception, the team coached by Felix Koslowski pushed hard in attack, and with 7 winning spikes by Louisa Lippman opened in their favor clinching the last eight final spot in Pool B.
● Jennifer Janiska and Camilla Weitzel shared the leadership in the second scoring 4 points each to help Germany get closer to the win.
● Germans needed a bit more effort to close the third set after coach Koslowski substituting 3 of the main players. Greece took the chance and didn't let the opponent expand the lead with more than 3 points. Still, with only 26% of positive reception, they could not use their full attacking potential and remained winless at the end.
● Martha Evdokia Anthouli was the only player of Greece with double-digit points - 12 which made her the top scorer of the match. Marie Schoelzel recorded 11 for Germany.

Louise Schoelzel“It wasn’t easy to keep the high level all of the time but it was a fun match and I’m happy we won it in three sets. We missed a few points in the third set, some stupid things happened but we overcame them. Our hope is to progress at least to the quarterfinals and from there why not go even further?”
Middle blocker, Germany
Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez“We didn`t start with our usual line-up, but I think the girls did a good job. Germany is playing very well, they beat Bulgaria 3:2. In the end what happened in the third set pretty much summarizes all of our tournament – at 22-22 we made a serve mistake and we lost 22-25. Basically – we made a lot of mistakes in the most important moments. We are leaving but the organization of the tournament is very good. Plovdiv did a great job.”
