In the first match of Pool C played in Zadar, Croatia, the Croatian national team fulfilled expectations and beat Switzerland 3-0. This is the fifth victory in a row of the Croatian team in the last ten years or so.

The Croatian team consisted of Klara Perić, the setter, captain Samanta Fabris - the opposite, Matea Ikić and Laura Miloš as spikers, Božana Butigan (who celebrated today her 21^st birthday) and Beta Dumančić as middle blockers. Croatian libero was Rene Sain. Lucija Mlinar, one of the spikers, also entered the game a few times.

The game started with strength-testing at both sides, however with lots of mutual respect. Both teams were a bit tensed and played nervously. None of the teams managed to make any big difference. Croatia lead throughout the opening set, but never more than two points. Only after the serve of Matea Ikić did Croatia go +3. At the end, it was 25-20 in favour of Croatia.

After that great first set, Croatia started the second one with a 3-0 run, before leading 16-10 and 19-12. In the end of the second set, the result was 25-19 for the hosts. At the beginning of the third set, the Swiss girls played a more aggressive game, which resulted in their lead (12-8), when Croatian coach Daniele Santarelli was forced to call his first time-out. After the break, Croatia stabilised their game, so the Swiss coach Saskia van Hintum had to call time-out, since the hosts had edged ahead 17-15, but to no effect. The Croatian team ended up winning the third set with 25-21, with Laura Miloš and Samanta Fabris top scoring with 18 and 13 points, respectively.
