Match Report

Serbia come from behind to edge Bulgaria

Article

Serbia made amends for a loss they suffered earlier this summer in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, when however they were missing most of their star players. The 2017 European champions extended their EuroVolley winning streak even further; their last setback dates back to the 2015 semi-final with Russia in Rotterdam.

Bulgaria are yet to claim their first victory in the competition, since the 1-3 loss to Serbia follows the shocking 2-3 defeat they had to endure when playing France last Friday. Middle blocker Nasya Dimitrova was their top scorer of the match with a tally of 18 points, and a 70% success rate in attack.

Serbia’s outside hitter Brankica Mihajlovic had a very prolific performance, resulting in a personal tally of 24 points.

Day 3 Recap

Play

#EuroVolleyW

Brankica Mihajlovic, outside hitter of Serbia: “The most important thing is that we claimed a victory and took three points. We did not have such a good start. We needed some time to feel the court, and feel each other. I do not know what the reason was for such a slow start. I think Bulgaria has played very well even though they lost twice in EuroVolley this far. We have played so many games against them and we know how to play against their team. After a bad start and losing a set, we could come back both physically and mentally. The most important thing is how you finish the game.

"We have not prepared for the France game yet. I watched them a little bit when they played Bulgaria. They are a good and young team. We need to see some video materials and prepare accordingly. We want to be the winner of the next match too. We respect all of our opponents and we will try to play our best to raise our level.”

Serbia celebrate second victory of EuroVolley 2019

“We started better than we expected and took the first set with a good game. After that, Serbia managed to win the match with their experience and strength. Tomorrow we will face Turkey. Obviously, it is always difficult to play with the home side but it does not matter to us who the opponent is. We have two defeats and now we have to win. Hopefully, we will be on the winning side.”
