Match Report

Third success for Russia, Spain's hope is still alive

Article

Spain's brave effort was not enough to secure a single set against a strong Russian side. Spain played its last game in Pool D: after two sets where Russia took the lead, Spain raised its head in the third set, making promising leads a few time, but the last part of the set went once again to the strong Russian team.

Spain finished the Pool with two victories and three defeats, but the team´s dream to secure their spot in the next round is still alive. Spain will go to the next round only in case Belarus does not secure a win in their last two games - against Germany and Switzerland.

Day 6 Recap

Play

Vadim Pankov, Russia coach: „We wanted to win and we did it. Our performance came down a little bit in the third set, but we resisted the opponent pressure. Now I am looking forward for our last game in group with Slovakia. There will be once again noisy atmosphere.”

We knew Russia is strong team. We tried thr best we can, but it was not enough for a better result. Our young team has learned a lot, it will help them in the future. I am satisfied how we played in Bratislava. We won two games and now we have to wait if it will be enough to play eight final.
