Overview

Day 4 continues in Cluj-Napoca, with hosts Romania up against team Sweden, in what we expect to be a match full of tension. Sweden has remarkably turned their last match around and beat Finland 3-2, after winning three sets straight, while Romania are looking to win their first match in front of home fans, after having lost their opener against Turkey 1-3. We shall expect an interesting encounter between the Haak sisters of Sweden ( Isabelle scored 42 against Finland) and Romania's rising stars Adelina Ungureanu and Alexia Căruțașu (17 points scored in the opener). During the first game, both teams' winning spikes percentage was quite impressive: 35% for team Sweden and 40% for team Romania.

Match Report

Sweden defeated Romania

Article

The 2nd match of day 4 from Group D has been really entertaining especially due to the incredible atmosphere in the BT Arena with an impressive crowd pouring in to cheer for hosts Romania. The first set of the game has had a cat-and-mouse story with both teams switching in the lead. However, the Swedish defence has shown it is a class higher than the Romanian attack and Sweden have sealed the set.
The 2nd set has again been extremely entertaining, with both teams staying close together in a cat-and-mouse game. Sweden has found pockets of space through the middle to get quite a big advantage. Their defensive work has been amazing with two consecutive blocks giving them the set point. Sweden closed the second set 17-25. The third set started in the same fashion, with the Swedish team defending superbly. Romania’s attacks have been blocked by the wall created by team Sweden time and time again. Ultimately, the team errors counted by team Romania have cost the hosts the match. The real winner of this match was the crowd, which was outstanding and energetic! Both of the Haak sisters have put together an amazing performance!

After the match, Adelina Ungureanu declared: "We made so many unforced errors today. For us, this loss has to be a lesson for the future. We need to show the same level of volley we showed against Turkey. After the Netherlands, we will have two decisive matches."

Anna Haak was confident after the match: "Very strong game for us. We continued in the same fashion as we finished off with Finland. Against Turkey, which is a big nation, it will be another match, but right now we are extremely confident, we did great on the block."
