The end of the journey in Pool D: Ukraine won against host Romania

Article

The end of the journey in Pool D hosted by Cluj-Napoca, Romania, has put hosts Romania against Ukraine. Although there was no pressure in this match, with both teams knowing their fate in EuroVolley 2021, Romania started the game wanting to give a first win to the home fans, who have created a wonderful atmosphere in the BTarena throughout the tournament. Set number 1 started with Ukraine leading the hostilities, with the impressive Olesia Rykhliuk showing off her firepower again. Team Romania tried playing various styles of play, however nothing seemed to work for them despite Alexia Carutasu’s efforts to keep her team in the game. In the second set, Ukraine continued their dominant offensive performance, with team Romania unable to do anything to stop the Ukrainian from launching spike after spike. The third set started in the same fashion, with Ukraine taking an early lead and Romania trailing from behind. Lots of mistakes on Romania’s side caused them to lose the third set and the match. The hosts Romania finish the group without any win, while team Ukraine will continue in the final phases of the competition.
