Romania celebrate their second victory
Match Report

Romania survived Estonian storm and earn the second win

Article 25 August 2019

Both Estonia and Romania played third game in three days. Estonia showed great volleyball in the first set, they led 16-11, 22-18 and 23-20, but Romania scored six points from the last seven rallies and took this part. In set 2 the Eurovolley newcomer Estonia raised their level even more, but they needed 5 set points to tied the score, once Romania didn't use any of their four set points. It's worth to mention that Estonia had 71% in attack after negative reception (!). The leader of Estonian team Nette PEIT (EST) scored 11 points only in the second set alone and 31 across the match. The next part was a very close until 16-16, then Romania changed the rhythm and scored five points in a row taking the lead again. The fourth part was also a fierce battle, but in the last few rallies Romania performed some great actions and Estonia was not able to respond. The best scorer of the game was Nette PEIT, Adelina BUDAI-UNGUREANU (ROU) tallied 25 points.

Day 3 Recap

Play

Luciano PEDULLA, head coach of Romania:

"Both teams were tired, because we played three games in three days. Our last game took a lot of energy, and we had only 20 hours to recover. Estonia was tactically well-prepared, so it wasn’t an easy victory for us. On the other hand, I am very satisfied with my players, because they played well under pressure, and tried to find the solution after the bad periods. Now we have one rest day before our next game against Croatia, and we are going to correct our mistakes"

"We would have needed little bit more cold head to win. We were rushing things at the end of sets. We have to know what we have to do and we have to follow the tactics during the whole game. "

Andrei OJAMETS
head coach of Estonia

Juliya Mönnakmae, captain of Estonia:

"First game in Hungary was bad, than we played yesterday a little bit better, and today was our best game. The fans motivated us a lot, they gave us incredible support. I'm a little bit sad but at least we won a set again today."
