    Turkey plays agains Netherlands in Tampere: it promises to be a hard-fought match

    Turkey have had a great campaign in Tampere Pool C. After three wins in a row, they now top the table. After beating Russia, Spain and North Macedonia they will face another tough opponent, The Netherlands. Lagumdzija (TUR) – the champion of European League this summer – will answer to the power of The Netherlands opposite Nimir Abdel-Aziz.

      Hakametsä Icehall is just less than 4 km from the city centre and it is easily achievable walking or with you own car, taxi or bus. You can walk from city centre to venue in 45 minutes and see beautiful sites of Tampere at the same time. By bus you can found Hakametsä with many diffrent buslines: 3A, 3B, 6, 9A, 17, 25, 29A, 29B, 40A, 80. All these bring you to less than half kilometer from the venue. By car you can found venue (address Keltinkatu 2) next to Hervannan valtaväylä on eastside of the citycentre. Parking places next to the venue are limited during EuroVolley. Get directions

    Match Report

    TURKEY v THE NETHERLANDS

    The Netherlands were strongly led by Nimir Abdel-Aziz who scored 34 points in the match against Turkey, which they won 3-1. They now top the Pool C in Tampere before the last round robin matches of these two teams.

     


    Abdel-Aziz was almost unstoppable from the beginning. The Dutch opposite could only be blocked a couple of times in the end of third and fourth set, but Netherlands still could take the lead again each time.
    Turkey either is not only a one-player-team. This time they started well with  their captain Baturalp Güngör, who totally scored 20 points.
    With his aces and powerful jumping, he also produced many points in all the fields. First set already started with many aces.

     


    Opposite Adis Lagumdzija found his scoring for Turkey in the third set and finally he got level points with his captain. But that was not enough for Turkey as the Dutch block succeeded to block him again in the fourth set.
    Despite Turkey produced a great lead in the beginning of the fourth set, The Netherlands cought them by 18-18 and went all the way to win the match.
    The Dutch outside hitters Robert Andringa and youngster Bennie Tuinstra showed their best level action during the match as Thijs Ter Horst and Gijs Jorna had their time tonight mainly in the substitutes corner.

    “It was a big fight – from start to end – but we knew we could expect such a tough match, especially after watching the performance that Turkey had delivered in their previous matches. This victory is extremely important towards the final standing in this pool. I think we were extremely focussed and concentrated after the score reached the 20-point mark – and the players who came in from the bench did perform very well, so they deserve some credit too.”
